feels mysterious...

very creepy indeed, but the piano could be less plucky. maybe some more reverb would help with that.

You could add some more of the carousel sounding bells through out more of the song, especially when the piano has it's own part at 0:26. the piano part could be a little louder as well.

incredible job on this one. you gave it a mysterious, scary, but at the same time intense feeling. unlike a lot of scary sound tracks, it doesn't need an actually scary movie; the soundtrack would MAKE the movie scary, which is exactly what scary movies are about. Great job!! fav'd and downloaded :)

EvilRaccoon responds:

I love the carousel bells idea! I need to do another creepy one and add that in!

Thanks for the score and the download! =D

love the percussion!

the orchestra really adds to the dramatic effect. your music reminds me of Danny Elfman's stuff! I've gotta download this stuff! you're amazing!

suggestions:

The bass drum heartbeat phrase things at the beginning would be even better if they were ear-bleeding loud

once again, i love the low brass parts, but it might be even cooler if you added chords onto the brass rather than just with the background synths.

To add to the sci fi affect of the whole song, the motor background synth could pan a bit more, or even have a chorus effect on it. I just feel it could be a bit more fxed, u know?

Just gotta say that i LOVE this piece. You're going to be a great soundtrack writer (or already are one) so keep it up! what program do you use?

EvilRaccoon responds:

Yeah, I agree it could do with more panning from one side to the other, that would give it more a dynamic edge. I should get you to review my stuff before i release it, you seem to be able to pick out the stuff I forget really easily!

Im using fruity believe it or not, just with a ton of VST's! heehee. I tend to use nexus for synths. Im looking to expand though, :)

Thanks again for your reviews, they are always a really interesting read.

loved it!

has a really dark, grunge feel to it, and the form is perfect. your voice kind of reminds me of foo fighter's old stuff.

the song it's self could use some more vocals, and maybe some more complex bass riffs, between chords. Right now it's perfect for building on, like you said, so please do!!

it also felt like it was missing a lead guitar. that would help the song out a lot, i think.

just one technical issue: 0:53, the bass didn't hit the goal note right away on the slide :p

i can't think of anything else you could do, great job! btw, i make music as well, if you wouldn't mind reviewing a song or two of mine, that would be great! i'm into mutual reviews. thanks!

VGstudiosTeam responds:

Thanks man! I had been listening to alot of Soundgarden when I wrote this lol. I never got a chance to add Lead, this is more of a demo then anything. I wrote the lyrics on spot and didn't have alot of time, but expect more! :D

astouding!

incredibly mastered, awesomely put together, and fits the genre perfectly! Everything about this song keeps you on the edge of your seat, and just gives me goose bumps.

i noticed that the rythm of the main them was a lot like the pirates of the carribean theme, not that you ripped them off, just thought i'd let you know

the percussion is amazing, but I think that a timpani solo would sound cool

a little piccolo would give it a bit more of a war feel, u know?

Myself being a trombone player, i think the low brass part would be sick to play :D I make music as well, and you REALLY know what you're doing. If you wouldn't mind, could you review a song or two of mine? I'm into mutual reviewing. Thanks!

EvilRaccoon responds:

Yeah, Ive been listening to PoTC and really liked the three beats in a bar. It was actually hard not to rip it off. I agree a little piccolo would be so much fun to put in! It could give me a great little single drunken pirate walking about totally out his mind without a clue whats going on.

I used to play trombone too. :D hehe. And of course I'd be more than willing to review some of your tracks! Thanks so much.

go improv!

This is a nice jam session you've got! i love improvising (i think i do it at least once in all of my songs :P), but this improv is really good. you could build off of the riffs you made in this song. if you're going to make a full version, i'm looking forward to it!

Jnr1114 responds:

I might, but I also have other songs I am working on. So it will most likely be an improve song but a lot longer.
Thanks for the review!

wowowow

huh...it's easier for me to start a song than it is to end it...that's why it takes me forever to finish them :P

pretty neat....there are a ton of synths going on at once, so this would probably wouldn't ever become boring to listen to. but it's not crowded at the same time. Very well mastered, but now i see why you say it was hard to end...the ending could have been much better! Of course, a lot of songs do end like that, but this one seemed like one that would fade out, as if to say that my happiness will last beyond this song, u know? Oh, and the claps were sort of weird... idk, they just didn't fit for me, but it's probably alright with other peeps...i would experiment with other sounds :)

overall, incredible work! I really wish i was as good as you! you're going to be really famous some day....you better mention the guy that helped you with some of your songs! lol jk, keep on making great stuff!

DaveGuy responds:

dw, I will! thx for the review.

i wanna play it!

lol, i totally agree with the off-key thing in description

i hate how it just ends...do some sort of conclusion chord..that would help the song a lot

great jazz song, i wouldn't mind playing this in jazz band! you should totally put in some accompaning horns/ guitar

make each note in a repeating line on the saxophones more articulated

incredible song, i don't really have any criticisms. 10/10 5/5

SourPuddle responds:

The end was actually supposed to be looped. . .I'll get to fixing that some time.

relaxing/alarming

guitars are just a little off in the transition parts in the beginning

some more noodling and hammer-ons would help the song out, although i must say that the chords were very beautiful :)

some of the attacks were a little off...i guess that's because you recorded all of these separately? do you have a metronome? u should use one to make it easier to get the tracks together

the first part could be incorporated into the rest of the song pretty well. experiment with that...the form sort of reminded me of The Pretender by The Foo Fighters, and trying to do that same arpeggiating/ chord technique might be perfect for this song

the stop-and-play-chords-part at 1:41 was pretty cool, but would sound better if there was some noodling between each chord.

sorry...most of these are suggestions :P I guessing you know most of the technical messups so this was the best i could come up with. i hope it helps! 7/10 4/5

ChickenGod responds:

Thanks!

Yeah, I use a metronome, but I still have horrible timing with it.

I wanted to bring back the beginning part somewhere in the song. Maybe in a later version though.
