synth comes in pretty loudly

the synths that come in at the beginning were a little loud, and drowned out the intro rhythm section (which was great by the way ;))

One pet peeve about the bass line: on the fourth...hmm...note pair? it just changed to the next note pair, without a transition note (i suggest going up a half step) like the rest of the transitions in the note pairs. just a small suggestion, but it could go a long way

It was really easy to recognize these general synths...i'm pretty sure one of them was solo star, no? put effects on those suckers dude! it would sound a lot less like it came from garage band, which would be a good thing!

overall, some easy listening, but it has a lot of potential to be built upon and touched up. 7/10 4/5

MelonChucker responds:

yeah this song was really my first garage band song i was just starting to get the hang of it u can probably see the difference from white fire to neon to kilogram they progress. I have fl studio but i havent been able to really polish any songs because im just not that good with it yet

good buildup..

Nice, cheery and fun to listen to!

-I loved the lead synth, but wouldn't it sound awesome if it were a guitar?

-If you ever wanted to add to the length, you could put in a refrain, the music form was lacking; it was the same theme through most of the song, but hey, it kept you interested ;)

- the drums were lacking as well, and even though the background synth added a lot of cymbal like texture to the song, a clap here and there wouldn't hurt

-no timing issues...props on that :)

after the synth solo at the beggining, it sounded like there should be some huge explosion of drums and synths going crazy! if you want to lie low after some thing like that, a drum solo and transition chords would make it run pretty smoothly.

overall, great song, i liked it :) i hope these weren't GB loops though...they take away from the originality of the song :P 8/10 4/5

MelonChucker responds:

they weren't GB loops lol all original. I really need work on my percussion lol i a lot of time just focus on the melody

what did you make this in?

wow...the combination of the styles is incredible. You made it work perfectly!! it really does sound like water in space...which is pretty sick. trippy, alive and laid back.

cons:
-It got a little repetitive by around 3:40.
- the background wash synth could be used a bit more in the spacey part around 1:00
-The drums i heard at the beginning never came back into the song at any point in the song. The lounge influence could be a bit more effective if you put that drum beat in somewhere in the middle of the song.
- as the song picked up, i didn't really hear much that happened in the beginning at the end of the song. If you could incorporate that into the end, it might conclude a bit better, and sound less repetitive

I hope i gave a thorough review. Would you mind reviewing one or two of my songs? I'm known to pay it back, so the more you review my stuff, the more i'll review yours. thanks!

tijnn responds:

Thank you for the kind review... although...

Cons: The drums at the beginning stay in the song the whole time, they don't come back, because they never disappear - If you listen close, the cymbals are laying down the basics the whole song through.

And nothing returning of the beginning of the song? The bass + bellish tunes are also in there throughout the whole track (:

Repetitiveness... I can't but agree. But hey. It's ambient. (:

incredible synths

I was blown away by the fx in this song. The drums fit it all very well, and the synths have a melt in your mouth feel to them. Incredible mixing, and some very dark chords. maybe some more reverse cymbal and moving bass lines would sound really cool. I love it! expand on it! 9/10 5/5

btw, i make music as well, would you mind reviewing a song or two of mine? I'm known to pay it back, so the more you review my stuff , the more i'll review yours. thanks!

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for the review.

could use some more unique synths?

I like the pounding bass, but that could be just a little bit less reduced, or clear anyways. The simplicity of this song really helps it out. The bass line could use a little bit more variety, which is weird for songs like this, but it would sound great with these wild synth lines, u know? The overlapping is pretty incredible if you ask me, just use some more drum variety, and it will add quite a bit to the GE Overall, great techno song! 8/10 4/5

btw, I make music too, and i'm always looking for some talented critics to give me some advice. would you mind reviewing a song or two for me? I'll review your songs if you review mine :) thanks!

MelonChucker responds:

fist off thanx i agree with the bass drums but the garageband drum sets are very limited lol

hmm...epic

I really liked the horns and orchestration you added into it, it made this sound full, beautiful and moving. This is something you should definitely consider continuing! It's got a ton of potential to be a great symphonic piece, but I think that there should be a little more moving in the trumpet..well, high horn part at around 1:00. I can't really tell you what to do next, but the chords in this song are beautiful, the piecing together is fantastic. if you want to add some decoration, you could do a few more cymbal rolls, but that's really all I've got for you! Great work!

Jnr1114 responds:

Thanks! I like it a lot also. I will add more precession like cymbals and maybe some low velocity bells. I might do some stuff with the horn. I mostly moving toward making the piano more expanded not the trumpets but hey, I can give it a shot.

Thanks alot!

japanese video game remix?

this song sounds like a remix of some japanese video game, no particular game in general, it just has that style to it. It's almost a chiptune, which i love btw ;)

Criticism:

-the eq is extremely annoying :P when the lead/solo synth comes in around 0:20 and 2:20, the volume of everything else goes down. it also happens with the bass drum. maybe that's just a pet peeve of mine, but maybe you could level it out?
-make the bass line a bit more interesting, and that may be hard with all of the other synths going on. However, a simple bass line like that kind of takes away from the complexity of the rest of the synths. add in some decoration!
-overload of synths? the synths a really cool and everything, but it feels really crowded at parts..

sorry if my review is scattered and weird, it's been a while since i reviewed :P If you could, it would be great if you could review some of my music! I'll review more of yours if you review mine.

at the end...does it say "happy new year, suck your gay man"? lol

liqourish responds:

its says "ef you hatters" lol

and i was hoping that no one would point out the bassline. :P although i thought it went pretty well through out the track
:20 and 2:20 were on purpose w/ hpf and other stuff i forgot, i also chained the synths to certain frequency/volume so they wouldnt sound overly crowded :( , id say the worst part was with the cymbals and viola@ :47+

and ty for the crit, i dont get them often

incredible, can't believe you improvised this

I can only dream of becoming this good at piano. And to consider that this was all improv. live...you're incredible

Nice flow, but GB loops...really?

You made this song flow pretty well, but considering that nearly all of this was done with GB loops, I personally think that anybody could have made this.

This song sounds like it was rushed in the making...there isn't a bass, besides the bass drum, and the extent of the song is percussion and a few guitar loops. I'm not sure why it's on the front page, but whatever. I give you a 7/10 on the mixing and for the overall song, i'd give you a 6/10.

for me, using garage band loops is pretty lame...but people will like what they like. It's kind of like how I put one of my first songs up recently and it almost got a 3.5, even though i used garage band loops :P

You can make personalized music on garage band, you just need a keyboard and you're set. that's what i do...if you wanna hear what that sounds like you can check out my music, and see what you think of it. It includes a lot of mixing, but it's 500% more authentic than GB loops. You should try that out some time.

It's a nice set of ideas

I really like alot of the riffs you have here, but it's lacking piano for a lot of the orchestral parts. If you're going to make a piano project, make most of it piano, u know? That's just me though. Once the drive starts at around 0:40 the song feels a little empty, like there should be some left hand playing all over there, or at least a bass. The form is a little weird too, like, it's not obvious that you've been using the same riff twice. in this case, a little more repetition throughout the song would be better for it. To do this you can use the basic form for music with the whole intro chorus refrain chorus bridge refrain kind of stuff, and you can mix it up however you want too, it's just that this song has a bunch of riffs that are connected, but not pieced together, u know? Just organize the riffs, add some more substance to it and i think this would be a great addition to the Pianoi series!

7/10 4/5

Jnr1114 responds:

I know what you mean by not pieced together. But the whole idea of this piano stuff is to get out some riffs. It's not really supposed to be a song. More like a set of ideas. Mostly for practice.

Thanks for the review!
